Pułtusk - one of the oldets and most interesting towns of the Northern Mazovia, picturesquely located in the Narew valley.

The old pagan stronghold in 1257 obtained civic rights granted by the prince Ziemowit. The city, due to its ancient origin belongs to the association of the Chapter of the Oldest Cities and Towns in Poland. In 16th and 17th centuries the city became a significant center of cultural life, art patronage of wide extent and an important center of economic life.
Pułtusk became second, as for importance, center of grain trade in Mazovia. Creation of the city seal with an emblem containing a crosier and a flag was the symbol of the city development. The city colours are yellow and blue.

The city center is located on an island surrounded by a water channel. It has the longest market-place in Europe, with a city-hall tower, collegiate basilica of 1449 with a bell-tower, a castle - former seat of the Płock bishops, St. Mary Magdalene church and the Regional Museum.

As a urban-architectonic complex it is the most interesting example of Gothic-Renaissance city extended during classicism period in Mazovia.

In the Jesuit College in Pułtusk such famous personages as e.g. Sarbiewski, Orzechowski, Ossoliński were educated, under such lecturers as Rev. Piotr Skarga and Jakub Wujek.
